“I was excited by the opportunity to find my own way of working with Nick Shinn’s Merlin typeface. The italics, especially when used independently from the roman styles, felt particularly compelling to me. I was also drawn to the punctuation, which became a decorative motif used to separate and organize the different sections of text. When enlarged, the unique shapes and angles within each character began to take on a different quality, so I introduced a gray overlay to highlight this.”
